Mike Priefer departs as Vikings' special teams coordinator, will join Browns

He was reinstated after missing the first two games of the 2014 season.

Wilks, who was the Panthers' assistant head coach and defensive coordinator in 2017 and a former defensive backs coach for the Panthers, Chargers and Bears, was sacked after 1 season in Arizona that saw the Cardinals go 3-13 resulting in landing the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Star Tribune is reporting that Mike Priefer will not be returning as special teams coordinator.

Meanwhile the search for offensive coordinator continues.

"The fact we went backwards on both offense and defense", ended Wilks' time with the Cardinals, according to president Michael Bidwill. Amos Jones has taken the majority of the heat for that, but will not be back in 2019. Former Denver coach Vance Joseph was scheduled to visit the Browns over the weekend, but he was hired by new Cardinals coach on Friday. Now he'll see if he's a good fit for defensive coordinator in Cleveland.

The most high-profile additions will be the coordinator spots, and one has been filled as Tom Pelissero broke the news that the Browns will be bringing in former Minnesota Vikings specials teams coordinator Mike Priefer.

As of Friday afternoon, the Browns still had not officially announced Freddie Kitchens as head coach.
