Ohio State QB Tate Martell is listed in NCAA transfer portal

The Tate Martell era at Ohio State is over before it even got a chance to start.

The college football transfer market added another big name on Thursday as it was revealed that Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell submitted his name to the NCAA transfer portal. And while entering the transfer portal doesn't guarantee a transfer, given Martell's comments prior to Fields' transfer, his intentions seem clear.

While in the NCAA transfer database, other programs will have the opportunity to contact Martell about a potential transfer.

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Justin Fields announced his transfer to Ohio State on January 4, creating a tense competition between the two players.

Martell spent his freshman year of high school in the San Diego area before he transferred to Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, one of the nation's top recruiting factories.

"I'm going to be honest, that's what's really kept me here to this point", he said.

"Words of advice - don't swing and miss ... especially not your second time", Martell tweeted at the time.

Mars' ask for Fields to have immediate eligibility for the 2019 season could take some time, but he expects an answer within the next six weeks. Those rushing stats made him Ohio State's third-leading rusher in 2018. He played in 12 games for the Bulldogs, threw four touchdown passes and ran for four more during his first season in Athens.
