Oklahoma QB Austin Kendall to explore transfer options

Oklahoma backup quarterback Austin Kendall has entered the NCAA transfer database portal. Possibly Tate Martell of Ohio State or Jalen Hurts of Alabama?

Of the quarterbacks now on the roster, Kendall figures to be in best position to earn the starting job at the outset of next season, but the Sooners could also elect to bring in a transfer to bridge the gap between Murray and five-star prospect Spencer Rattler.

Kendall, who still has two seasons of eligibility, could either choose to transfer or come back to Norman.

If Kendall does leave, it could spell trouble for the Sooners under center. While Kendall's been forced to sit behind the likes of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray-two Heisman Trophy winners-he was expected to get a fair chance to start in 2019.

With Murray reportedly leaning towards entering the 2019 NFL Draft, Kendall would be the obvious choice to start for the team next season.

Lincoln Riley's offense can do wonders for a quarterback, but with talented QB Tanner Mordecai already pushing Kendall this offseason and the arrival of the top quarterback in the nation in Spencer Rattler, Kendall saw the writing on the wall.

Throughout his time in Norman, Kendall has completed 28-of-39 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Murray plans to submit his name into the NFL Draft.
