A powerful winter storm, which is being dubbed "Winter Storm Gia" by The Weather Channel, is expected to wallop parts of the USA this weekend with snow and ice. Snow is expected to continue into the evening hours across metro Denver.

Snow arrived in the region Saturday evening, and meteorologists revised their predictions upward and now foresee 4 to 8 inches of accumulation in Central Maryland.

The snow should begin to taper off early Sunday morning, leaving behind a coating to an inch for most of Philadelphia.

Heaviest snowfall events in St. Louis and Columbia. Snowfall totals will be a little more south of St. Joseph towards Kansas City and east towards Chillicothe where five to seven inches is expected. "These areas should expect conditions that may lead to periodic travel delays, including blowing snow, falling snow and slick roadways", The Weather Channel explained online.

"Snow will overspread the region Saturday into Sunday".

Total snowfall of 7 to 9 inches is expected to occur along and south of a Rushville to Lincoln to Danville line, with 5 to 7 inches of snow expected north of this line. South of the Triad less than ½ inch of snow and sleet.
