Senegal star Kalidou Koulibaly wants Napoli exit in £95m deal

Manchester United are not going to be signing Senegalese worldwide and Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly in the winter transfer window if reports in the media are anything to go by.

The Red Devils are determined to sign a commanding centre-back and have identified the Senegalese as their first choice transfer target.

However, that has not appeared to deter United and reports on Tuesday claimed the club had renewed attempts to land the centre-half and were indeed ready to test Napoli's resolve to keep a player who only signed a new five-year deal at the club in September.

The Portuguese coach was clamouring for new center-back last summer with Jerome Boateng, Diego Godin, Kalidou Koulibaly and Harry Maguire all linked with a move to Old Trafford before the start of this current season.

Manchester United are prepared to wait until the summer to sign Kalidou Koulibaly with hope diminishing that the defender will be allowed to leave Napoli in January, sources have told ESPN FC.

The defender signed a new deal in 2018 but the Italians know it will be hard to keep hold of the player.

His departure is likely to command a world record fee for a defender with United expected to pay in the region of £90m to bag him.

Caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward he will get a say on any January additions but the Norwegian has made it clear he is happy to work with the players already at his disposal.
