Snake Catcher Saves Python Found With 511 Ticks On Its Body

The carpet python was covered in more than 500 paralysis ticks, according to the snake catcher.

He claimed he was called out to a property in Coolangatta, 100km south of Brisbane, after a homeowner spotted a snake in their swimming pool. The professional snake-catcher was live streaming on Facebook when he arrived at his client's home, only to be horrified by what he had found.

"Jesus Christ, look at the ticks on him", Harrison said.

"I've never seen anything like this".

"Oh my God, that is terrible", Harrison's wife said in the video.

The python must have felt really uncomfortable with all the ticks on it that he went inside the swimming pool to drown the parasites.

Mr Harrison then shared a video on his Facebook page and informed his followers about the weird discovery.

The snake catchers responded to one Facebook user saying they believe the parasites targeted the reptile's head due to blood flow.

After seeing the photos on the internet people cringed but the good news now is that the python after the treatment got rid of the ticks, IANS reported. "He's trying to drown them", the snake handler said.

Mr Harrison said reptiles have a higher tolerance to the poisonous ticks than mammals and humans. "But this poor carpet python was living with a whopping 511 ticks".

Vets at the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital worked for hours to remove the ticks from Nike.

But despite the agonising procedure, Nike still hasn't been given a clean bill of health.

He said: "There are still tiny young ones under the scales that will be treated with drugs to kill them".

Yahoo7 has attempted to reach out to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital for an update on the snake's condition, but is yet to receive a response.

"We're running tests, trying to find out what's wrong with him", the spokeswoman said.
