The Oscars would rather have A-list skits than a host

Breaking news! In a blatant bid to distract everyone from the problematic initial host who still refuses to go away, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced it plans to assemble the Avengers on the stage of the Dolby Theater for the 91 Academy Awards next month. The show will also "focus on starry skits and play up a high-profile year for music in film, thanks to likely nominees Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, and Kendrick Lamar".

With Kevin Hart stepping down from hosting duties of The Oscars ceremony in February, the event is now host-less.

"The Academy had been considering welcoming Hart back if he had used the opportunity in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres to demonstrate contrition for his anti-gay jokes and recommit to hosting the show", the Variety report reads.

The comedian stepped down as host of this years Oscars after he faced backlash online when past homophobic tweets resurfaced.

"I want everybody to know I'm done with it", Hart told Good Morning America's host.

Also, producers will choose some A-list stars set to introduce each segment of the show.

The last hostless show was in 1989, which wasn't well-received, with Rob Lowe and Eileen Bowman as Snow White performing an over-the-top song-and-dance number.

According to the Hollywood trade, the Academy is booking as much of the cast as possible, though it hasn't been reported whether the Avengers castmembers in question would appear individually or as a group.

The 91st Oscars will air on February 24, 2019, and is being produced by Donna Gigliotti and co-produced and directed by Glenn Weiss.
