Winter storm continues into Saturday

Winter storm continues into Saturday

A long duration light snow event will continue through the early evening hours before tapering off to flurries overnight.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for counties along and south of Interstates-88 and 290 until 3 a.m. Sunday.

The advisory is in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday and covers northern IL and Northwest Indiana including Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties.

Snowfall will cut off quickly farther north to an inch or less along the Illinois-Wisconsin border. The energy will begin to sift to the new and stronger low out to the east. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of the DC-metro region through 6 p.m. Sunday.

The storm moved into Kansas and Nebraska from the Rockies on Friday, then east into Missouri and IL, covering roads and making driving unsafe.

A snowy Saturday! You've likely been exercising your snow blowers or snow shoveling muscles throughout the day.

Friday could get messy as a storm system heads our way, potentially bringing another round of a wintry mix followed by a chance for significant snow. That area could also experience power outages.

Periods of moderate snow will remain possible across central IL north of I-70 this evening.
