Chadwick Boseman teams up with Spike Lee for Netflix project

The story is based on an original screenplay by Danny Bilson & Paul DeMeo, and follows Vietnam veterans who return to the jungle to find their lost innocence.

'To quote my brother Jay-Z from Da People's Republic of Brooklyn "On to Da Next One,"' Lee said in a statement. "Da 5 Bloods" would mark Lee's first directing gig for Netflix as the streaming giant continues to draw high-profile talent.

After earning his first Best Director and Best Picture nomination with BlacKkKlansman, the prolific Spike Lee is showing no signs of slowing down.

Da 5 Bloods will also feature Delroy Lindo - a Lee regular who's played West Indian Archie in Malcolm X, the dad in Crooklyn, and a charismatic drug lord in Clockers - plus French actor Jean Reno (The Professional, Mission: Impossible, etc.).

"I also have to say the reason why I'm wearing this hat and pullover is that many years ago the first slaves were brought to this country in Jamestown, Virginia, 1619 and 2019", Lee shared.

30 years after his magnum opus Do The Right Thing was overlooked by the Academy, his latest project BlacKkKlansman has suffered the same fate, but Spike Lee is taking things in stride because, in his estimation, he doesn't need the validation of a governing body to stay in his creative bag. "BlacKkKlansman" is the filmmaker's biggest domestic box office performer since 2006's "Inside Man".

Although Black Panther is not expected to take home best picture at the Oscars, the film has been a huge success for Disney and has become the first superhero film to become a best picture nominee. Lindo is repped by APA.
