Chosen 25 SG Anthony Edwards commits to Georgia

He essentially chose the Bulldogs over the Kentucky Wildcats as he canceled his other official visits to Florida State, Kansas, and North Carolina. He says one factor was Georgia's Tom Crean coached his two favorite players, Dwyane Wade at Marquette and Victor Oladipo at Indiana.

The in-state giant Georgia was the ultimate victor of the commitment from Edwards, but he's likely to be a one-and-done in Athens.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard named his final five schools back on December 28, with that list being the Kentucky Wildcats.

On Monday the world found out why when Edwards committed to Georgia over the Seminoles and Kentucky. "On my visit we watched film together, and he talks with so much energy". "When I went to a game, I felt the fans and the gym, everybody showing love, it felt like I was home".

Edwards is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the incoming class of 2019.

In his first year of coaching the Bulldogs, Crean has deep ties to Wade, whom he coached while at Marquette from 2001-2003 and instructed Victor Oladipo at IN from 2010-2013. He should be projected as a top three selection for the 2020 NBA Draft at the absolute worst.

Playing for the Atlanta Xpress grassroots program on the Under Armour Association circuit, Edwards averaged 20.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 47.4 percent from 3-point range.

He is also the first top-ranked Georgia prospect to opt to attend college in his home state since Kentavious Caldwell-Pope did so in 2011.

Yet, the fact that Georgia was able to land Edwards and still didn't crack the top 10 national class rankings shows how top heavy it is now.
