Danai Gurira Leaving The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira Leaving The Walking Dead

Danai Gurira is leaving AMC's The Walking Dead.

It's a bummer for fans of the series, especially those who have loved her character since she appeared in season 3 of the hit series.

Considering Michonne became largely the show's central character in the wake of Rick's departure, and as a major player in the original comics, it'll be a massive challenge for the show to continues beyond season 10. For now, fans are anxious to see how the Whisperers factor into the future of The Walking Dead.

Black Panther actress Danai Gurira will exit her recurring role as Michonne on AMC's The Walking Dead following a limited return next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her loss will be a big blow to the show's creative plans. We love Danai; we love that character. "We really want her to stay".

I don't know how surprising this news is, really. Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be but that's not our goal.

In addition to starring in The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira is an accomplished playwright and social activist. Eclipsed was also notable for an all-female and black cast and creative team, which was a Broadway-first. Additionally, Gurira is a focal point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Okoye in the Oscar-nominated Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and bound to appear in Avengers: Endgame as well as the highly-likely Black Panther sequel.

Her exit comes after what's been reported as "prolonged negotiations" with AMC, the company who produces the show, which is broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ 2.
