Former 'American Idol' contestant facing federal drug charges

Barba competed on the sixth season of "American Idol" in 2007.

Barba, 32, was arrested October 11 in downtown Norfolk and charged in a local court with one count of possession of more than 100 grams of heroin with intent to distribute it. Her attorney said at the time that Barba was unaware the drug was in her rented vehicle.

Antonella Barba, a fan favorite on season six of American Idol, who was arrested in Norfolk, Virginia, last October on a felony charge of heroin distribution, has been named in a new indictment charging her with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heroin and fentanyl.

But the aspiring singer was taken into custody on Monday, Feb. 11, according to the Virginian-Pilot, on a federal indictment charging her with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. The unsealed indictment revealed the 32-year-old has been charged with attempting to distribute cocaine, heroin, and two pounds of fentanyl.

In 2012, she appeared on an episode of Fear Factor.

Barba's detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

The indictment describes what appears to be a drug ring involving Barba, Justin Michael Isaac, Rawl Christopher Stennett and several other unnamed defendants in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

In the indictment, authorities allege illicit narcotics were stored by the drug ring at an apartment in Norfolk. The new charges could result in even more hard time, with each count carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison.

She was previously charged with shoplifting in NY and has a felony marijuana case pending in Kansas.
