Injured Naomi Osaka pulls out of Qatar Open

Naomi Osaka is still exhausted after her long Australian Open run and she will not be able to compete at the Qatar Total Open in Doha that starts next week.

"I am sorry to have withdrawn from Doha this year as I was looking forward to playing and seeing my fans there", the 21-year-old said in a statement.

Osaka is set to withdraw from next week's Qatar Open scheduled to take place in Doha due to a recurring back injury.

She beat Czech star Petra Kvitova - last year's Qatar Open victor - in three sets in Melbourne to claim her second Grand Slam after upsetting Serena Williams at Flushing Meadows for her first one.

Osaka is committed to play the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship next.

After the Australian Open, Osaka became the first Japanese singles player to be ranked number one in the world.

There is plenty of star talent on display in Doha, with 2014 champion Simona Halep - who Osaka replaced atop the rankings - joined by 2017 victor Karolina Pliskova, as well as Angelique Kerber and Kiki Bertens.
