Jennifer Lopez Passionately Rejects Grammy Motown Backlash

Jennifer Lopez set tongues wagging after paying tribute to Motown during her performance at the Grammys. They argued the Grammys should've chosen an African American singer.

"J. Lo better not salsa her way to the cookout because she is uninvited for that awful performance", preacher Jared Sawyer Jr. tweeted on Sunday.

"Singing up there with Smokey Robinson, like, I gotta pinch myself", Lopez said.

People on Twitter weren't having it. Jared Sawyer Jr., a preacher and author, was particularly critical.

"The thing about music is that it inspires all", Lopez told Entertainment Tonight. "You can't tell people what they can and can't do - what they should sing or not sing".

"I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset", the 78-year-old singer shared.

Lopez said she dedicated her performance to her mother.

The GRAMMYs turned out several awkward moment on Sunday night and Jennifer Lopez is baring the brunt of the burns coming from social media after her Motown tribute failed to impress the masses. Motown was music for everybody.

Alongside Smokey Robinson and Ne-Yo, J.Lo performed a medley of hits from the label's heyday at the Staples Center.

However, any Motown fans were not pleased and wondered why the Academy would honour the legendary record label with Lopez instead of a black artist, particularly during Black History Month.

"They know how much I have been influenced by that music and so it was a natural fit for them", she explained, adding she has no hard feelings for those who were less than enthused with her as the leading lady for the tribute.

In 1959, Berry Gordy founded Motown Records which housed some of music's biggest talents including Diana Ross, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Isley Brothers and more. "You gotta do what's in your heart", Lopez shared in her defense. "Everybody", Robinson said. "Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?". "We were The Temptations and we just sing with her and I feel it's a dream come true".
