Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, joined global film stars today at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) at London's Royal Albert Hall. Prince William joined Kate looking dapper in a traditional tuxedo.

She accessorised the stunning gown with glittering silver stilettos and striking pearl and diamanté earrings and a bracelet, believed to have belonged to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

Why were Prince William and Kate Middleton at the BAFTAs?

Kate Middleton and Prince William are regular attendees of the British Academy Film Awards with the Duke of Cambridge being president of the BAFTAs.

For the event, Kate wore a white asymmetrical Alexander McQueen dress with floral embellishments on her left shoulder.

Prince William told the audience: "Catherine and I are delighted again to join you this evening as we part with another fantastic year in film".

The Favourite, which looks at Queen Anne's relationship with two cousins, took home seven awards, with lead Olivia Coleman picking up the gong for Best Actress. With her hair pulled up, Middleton's earrings were on full display.

According to reports, Princess Diana's sons inherited her jewelry collection, including the gorgeous sapphire engagement ring that Prince William gave to Middleton when he proposed.

This isn't the first time our favorite 37-year-old Duchess has worn Princess Diana's jewelry for special events. But Will and Kate being the polite Brits they are (who have also conveniently not yet factored into The Crown's narrative), welcomed Colman with open arms on the red carpet.

Fighting back her tears, she told the audience: "We're having an fantastic night".
