Liverpool's improvement is clear to see, says Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed how he played through illness - and potential embarrassment - to star in Liverpool's important win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

It was just what Liverpool were looking for.

As of now, Manchester city lead the standings on goal difference with 65 points from 27 games.

"We had two draws in a row and that didn't feel that good", he added.

Kluivert says Pep Guardiola's men thoroughly deserved the 6-0 win over Chelsea.

Should Liverpool lose at Old Trafford, that will certainly be advantage City. If they are going to win the league they need to maintain that standard every week because they can't afford to make mistakes.

City meanwhile, have the Manchester derby just four days after the Champions League last 16 second leg, travel to their bogey side Crystal Palace and host Tottenham. Nobody would have predicted last season's 13th-placed and 14th-placed clubs, Leeds United and Norwich City, to be occupying the summit of the table just less than a year later.

"But I don't think it was because of the Champions League". They are cracking opponents' heads open and feasting on the goo inside.

City, Liverpool and Spurs highlighted that fact over the weekend with home victories by at least two-goal margins over Chelsea, Bournemouth and Leicester respectively.

The performance against Bournemouth, who have now lost nine away matches in succession and have suffered 13 defeats in the past 18 matches in all competitions, showed a return to the high-energy pressing game and clinical counter-attacking that has been so successful for Liverpool.

The Guinean midfielder's struggles since his arrival at Anfield have been well-documented but he was class against the Cherries, making more tackles (seven) and ball recoveries (12) than any other player on the pitch. He has grabbed games by the scruff of the neck and has been a champion player. Liverpool are behind the Cityzens on goal difference, but do have a game in hand.

"What will happen in Merseyside, as it did in Manchester all those years ago, is you will be walking down the street and people will be saying "I think we can do it, go on let's do it this year". We have to give everything in every game and in the end see where we are.
