Meghan Markle's being vilified the same way Diana was: George Clooney

"They're just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she's been pursued and vilified".

The Duchess of Sussex's friend, who attended her and Prince Harry's wedding a year ago, says Meghan is being "pursued and vilified".

Clooney and his wife Amal attended Meghan's wedding to Prince Harry, Diana's son, previous year when the American actress became the newest addition to the British royal family.

He explained, "She's a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it's history repeating itself".

Australia's Who magazine reports George made the comments while promoting his new film "Catch-22".

The tense relationship between Meghan Markle and her father Thomas reached new heights in recent days due to the publication of a letter the Duchess of Sussex wrote him that he has since revealed to the press. "The impact it was having on her that we would then see and feel was very hard to understand", William said in the documentary.

Addressing the speculation, Clooney said, "Oh yes, I'll be godfather of the royals apparently", before clarifying his sarcasm and telling reporters, "No!"

Reacting to the family row Clooney said Meghan's treatment was "irresponsible" and that she was getting a "raw deal".

In the note, sent in August, Meghan addressed her father as "Daddy" before accusing him of breaking her heart "into a million pieces" by allegedly lying in the press and publicly attacking her husband Prince Harry.

Since Markle and Prince Harry began dating, the duchess has been subject to media scrutiny about everything from her "messy" bun to her troubled relationship with her father.

Meghan laughed as a relative of one of the children showed her a photo on her phone, zooming in on the image to get a closer look.

A paparazzo once told Diana that he would "be there every day of your life until you're dead and then I'll be filming your grave", according to her brother Charles Spencer. "I'm sort of surprised by that".
