National Basketball Association roundup: George's 45 tops Harden's 42 in MVP-caliber matchup

He is two 30-point games away from matching the legend for the second-longest 30-point streak in National Basketball Association history.

"I just got caught up with Adams", he said.

George's four free-throws inside the final four seconds sealed the win after Westbrook slipped through the defence to convert a lay-up and give the Thunder the lead for good at 113-112 with 26.9 seconds left.

The Rockets' James Harden totaled 42 points - his 29th consecutive game with at least 30 - but he missed a contested three-pointer after Russell Westbrook pushed the Thunder ahead.

"It was a pretty good matchup against Harden", Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said.

And it was evidence of the excellence of Westbrook - who tied Wilt Chamberlain's National Basketball Association record with a ninth straight triple-double, finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists - and Paul George, who bolstered his.

The Rockets had appeared headed for a romp when they took a 70-48 lead into halftime.

The Thunder matched the Rockets' 42-point second quarter with a 42-point third period, keyed by 7-for-12 3-point shooting.

"We came out flat in the second half, for whatever reason, maybe being up 22 did it, I don't know".

Landry Shamet made four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and scored 17 points off the bench in his debut for Los Angeles, which rallied from a 28-point deficit to knock off host Boston.

Montrezl Harrell forced two turnovers and Patrick Beverley hit two three-pointers in the final two minutes as the Clippers completed the biggest regular-season comeback in club history. They had a 10-0 run that included three-pointers from Paul and Harden plus three Harden free throws after Paul converted a technical assessed against George for protesting a call.

Russell Westbrook had one arm draped across Jerami Grant's shoulders, the other over Terrance Ferguson's.

The Celtics were up by 20 at the time.

Acquired from Memphis before Thursday's trade deadline, Gasol played 19 minutes.

Danilo Gallinari's step-back jump shot put the Clippers up 102-100 and they wouldn't trail again. At half-time I told the guys everybody's playing uptight.

There have been closer games this season and even bigger performances-mostly from Harden-but this game was about as interesting as anyone could have possibly imagined.

Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 31 points as the Wizards won for the second time since acquiring Parker and Portis and a draft pick from the Bulls in exchange for Otto Porter Jr.

Parker had 20 points, and Portis had a game-high 12 rebounds in Saturday's win, during which the Wizards built a 15-point lead in the first half and kept the Bulls at arm's length the rest of the way.
