NBA Insider Has Major LeBron James Injury Update

While their defense has kept them competitive in his absence, their offensive decline contributed to a 6-11 mark without him.

James had a rough start with three turnovers in the first seven minutes, but the Lakers shot 12-for-19 in the first quarter and led by as many as eight before taking a 32-26 lead into the second quarter.

LeBron James on Thursday made a triumphant return to the court, breathing new life into the floundering Los Angeles Lakers with a 123-120 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Thursday will mark the end of the longest absence of his 16-year career.

While this date had been circled on the calendar for at least a week, the Lakers actually yesterday declared LBJ out for the game before later upgrading him to doubtful.

After the game, James said he felt good but admitted he's not quite back to full form just yet.

James made a fallaway jumper to break a 118-118 tie with 1:15 left in overtime, and Stephenson followed with a three-point play for a 123-118 Lakers lead with 45 seconds remaining. "But I was good enough to feel confident to just keep pushing throughout the game", he said. Rajon Rondo's layup snapped the scoreless stretch, and the Lakers were ahead 54-53 at halftime.

"If we play like we did tonight and I continue to get back to a groove then we can put ourselves in a position for a post-season spot". I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel tomorrow. "We are starting to get our depth back". The losing skid dropped them to the 9th seed from the 4th seed. I had a couple of drives, just trying to mentally get into it....

He added: "This is where I can shut out everything, be out there with my guys, command my guys, and get a win on the road".

Avery Bradley and Williams missed on the same possession, and Williams missed a technical free throw for the Clippers.

Lance Stephenson connected on multiple 3-pointers that helped the Lakers maintain a lead each time the Clippers threatened to pull even.

Williams couldn't get a potential tying three-pointer off in the right corner before the final buzzer sounded.
