New Aladdin trailer released during Grammys reveals Will Smith as ‘Genie’

Disney has released the first TV spot for its upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin, directed by Guy Ritchie, and it offers our first look at Will Smith as Genie.

Will Smith promised fans his version of Genie from Aladdin would be blue in the forthcoming live-action Disney film based on the hit animated feature and, hoo boy, he wasn't kidding.

Sure, the brand-new trailer gives us some sneak peeks at the chemistry between Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, the newbies that are bringing everyone's favorite carpet-flying couple, Aladdin and Jasmine, to life, and a better look at the Cave of Wonders. And I say this as someone who's been an ardent defender of Ritchie's last couple of fun-filled blockbusters. Smith, as Genie, asks.

He's blue, and honestly, it looks good. Totally sold up until I saw the genie.

The 50-year-old actor appeared in his Genie costume - which was published on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in December - but this time, entirely blue, seemingly with some CGI effects.

"He was big enough to feel like a force - not so muscular that he looked like he was counting his calories, but formidable enough to look like you knew when he was in the room", he explained. See why Smith told ET he was "terrified" to take on the character in the video below.
