Jeremy Lin is expected to sign with the Raptors after he finalizes a buyout with the Hawks, reports ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

He suffered the injury in the second quarter of Saturday's win in NY.

Lin was effective as a backup and mentor to Hawks' first-round pick Trae Young.

Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet is sidelined with a partial ligament injury to his left thumb, the team announced Monday. As they look to get over the hump in a LeBron James-less Eastern Conference and make a deep playoff run, adding a veteran backcourt piece like Lin looks like a good move.

With Delon Wright being shipped out to Memphis as part of the Marc Gasol trade, rookie Jordan Loyd could slide into the back-up point guard role until Lin can join the team.

With the Hawks, Lin averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 19.7 minutes per game.

Lin began his career with the Golden State Warriors in 2010-11. The Air Canada Centre fans, many of whom were there to witness the so-called Linsanity, erupted in a mix of disbelief and delirium.

Lin is earning $12.5 million in his first season with the Hawks.
