Sabres trade Guhle for Montour

The Ducks acquired defenseman Brendan Guhle, a promising play-making prospect, and a 2019 first-round draft pick in a deal struck a day before the NHL's trade deadline.

Montour is signed through next season with a cap hit of $3,387,500.

The 24-year-old was originally drafted by the Ducks in the second-round (55th overall) of the 2014 National Hockey League draft. The Ducks are clearly looking to the future, hence the acquisition of the first-round pick, but it'll probably be a late first-rounder, since it'll be coming from San Jose or St. Louis.

Buffalo elected to land a proven player in the third-year and 24-year-old Montour rather than wait for the 21-year-old Guhle to continue developing in the minors.

Montour, 24, has scored 16 goals and 63 points in 169 National Hockey League games. He has recorded five goals and 25 points to go with a mark of minus-16 through 62 games with the struggling Ducks in 2018-19.

Guhle never got much of a chance with Buffalo, playing in just 23 games over the past three seasons combined.
