San Diego Fleet Quarterback Mike Bercovici Suffers Brutal Hit During AAF Opener

For the inaugural game, the Alliance of American Football averaged 2.913 million viewers between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Basically, there's a big ol' gap in which an upstart football league could try satiate the desire fans have to watch real, live games during the offseason.

The ratings for the opening night of the inaugural AAF season proved just how much Americans can not get enough of football.

"Well, it is a little unusual when you go out there to get ready for the opening kickoff and there is no opening kickoff", said a smiling Coyle. The Birmingham Iron will host the Salt Lake Stallions.

So, Colts fans, who are you supporting in the AAF?

"We've done this in nine months because of so many great former National Football League people who are excited to do it, excited to be in it", Polian said.

The Apollos' head coach Steve Spurrier is no stranger to the state of Florida. The game was vintage Spurrier, with a mic catching him delivering the play call to the quarterback with the conclusion: "Tell him to catch it this time".

San Diego hired so well that it lost quarterback Josh Johnson to the Washington Redskins in December and offensive coordinator Jon Kitna to the Dallas Cowboys as their quarterbacks coach. The play clock will only run 35 seconds, five seconds shorter than the NFL. All eight AAF teams are incentivized to load their roster with local talent - players that have notably played for either the local college or professional teams. We certainly did as a staff, and I would say the Apollos had the same situation, and the officials did as well. "They saw enough good plays after the first quarter when we finally put on a good show".

Next up - The Apollos will next play February 17 at the Alamo Dome against the San Antonio Commanders with kickoff at 4 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. "They're a partner. The goal is to improve and support the ecosystem of football". Ratings will be harder when the games are on CBS Sports Network and not CBS in primetime. The NFL Network has agreed to broadcast 19 games throughout the entire season, while CBS will air one AAF game per week. After being cut by Green Bay, Warner was working in an Iowa grocery store before playing in the Arena Football League and ultimately landing with the Rams, leading them to a Super Bowl victory and being voted NFL MVP in 1999.

"Think about how many Kurt Warners are hiding among those kids who don't get to the NFL", Ebersol said.
