Shoes From Katy Perry Fashion Line Dropped by Walmart Over Blackface Features

Katy Perry's fashion line is pulling a number of shoes from retailers including Dillards and Walmart after one of the styles was criticized for evoking racist imagery.

Katy Perry attends the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards at Staples Center on February 10, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.

Singer-apparently-designer Katy Perry is facing scrutiny from the social media masses after her brand released a pair of black sandals featuring eyes and large red lips along the top.

Although the shoes come in two colors, black and beige, only their black counterparts have drawn criticism due to their resemblance to classic blackface makeup.

Perry has not publicly commented on the shoes being removed from shelves.

Sources close to the 34-year-old singer told TMZ that she designed the shoes as a part of an entire collection and that they were never meant to be offensive.

The news comes as Virginia's governor and an attorney general in Virginia have become embattled over pictures of them emerging donning blackface as young men; a lieutenant governor and gubernatorial hopeful in MS allegedly donning black face around the same timeframe; and high-end retailers like Gucci being accused of releasing a blackface turtleneck sweater that pulls up over your mouth with cut-out, oversized red lips.
