Thunder Waives Alex Abrines

The Oklahoma City Thunder have released guard Alex Abrines, the team announced Saturday.

The Thunder guard has been waived so he can devote more time to a personal matter, according to the Oklahoman. Abrines and the team came to a mutual decision that he needed to step away from the game to work on those issues, according to Royce Young of ESPN.

Abrines recently returned to play against the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat but he has since missed the past three games for the team.

"He's still battling through some things and wasn't able to be here tonight", coach Billy Donovan said after Tuesday's game. Basketball aside, we wish him the absolute best and hope he finds peace moving forward.

After trading Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot to the Bulls last week, the Thunder are now down to 12 guaranteed roster players. He signed with the Thunder in 2016 after four seasons with FC Barcelona, where he was named the EuroLeague Rising Star.

The Thunder part ways with Abrines after the latter spent the three seasons on the team.

Nader has averaged 6.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, including 39.5 percent from 3, but the Thunder could still use an upgrade on the wing.
