Toro Rosso kicks off launch week with STR14

"In regards to our performance, as is always the case before the start of a season, it's too early to say and we don't want to set a specific target - at least not now", team principal Franz Tost said.

The auto is powered by Honda's new RA619H hybrid engine.

But the Red Bull junior outfit, who finished ninth last season, do have an all-new driver pairing in Daniil Kvyat and Alexander Albon for the upcoming campaign.

"We don't know exactly where we're going to be", said Kvyat.

The most visible changes to the vehicle from last year's are those mandated by 2019's new technical regulations, including a wider, simplified front wing, smaller barge boards and a higher, wider rear wing.

"The synergies with Red Bull Technology for the non-listed parts, now that Red Bull will also be equipped with the Honda engine, will leave more time for our technical working groups to focus more on the details. I strongly believe he deserves another chance in Formula 1". Me and my engineering crew will do everything we can to squeeze the maximum out of the package we're given by the team. It will not make Toro Rosso into a championship victor, but it should make it a stronger midfielder. "I can see that, and it gives me confidence for the future".

Red Bull were suitably impressed, following Toro Rosso's lead in switching Renault for Honda power.

"Toro Rosso, being a smaller team, could not follow the fast development and production process a bigger team can afford, especially considering that the release of the technical drawing could, for whatever reason, be delayed or delivered last-minute".

Kvyat and Albon replace Pierre Gasly, who has left for Red Bull, and Brendon Hartley, dropped after a disappointing year.

Tost said the new arrangement - which Toro Rosso last used in 2008, when it effectively had an entire auto from Red Bull before that practice was banned - would "leave more time for our technical working groups to focus more on the details".

The second Toro Rosso vehicle to be designed around the Honda power unit, the STR14 was launched online via a video on Monday. The Englishman is expected to start work at his new team later this year. The Russian will be partnered by Thai driver Alexander Albon, who steps up after finishing third in last year's Formula 2 championship behind George Russell and Lando Norris.
