Trump supporters form human wall at southern border

As of 2014, Federal Bureau of Investigation data show El Paso still had the third lowest violent crime rate among 35 US cities with a population over 500,000 - just as it did before the fence was built.

Supporters of President Donald Trump's proposed border security measures gathered to form a human "wall" along a section of the U.S. -Mexico border in New Mexico on Saturday. "They're being exploited. Walls absolutely work, there's no doubt about it", he said.

Miller also said that former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke is playing to the far-left in leading an opposing march on Monday against a border wall.

He then plans on holding a counter-rally at roughly the same time as when the President takes the stage.

The commissioner of Texas' Department of Agriculture touted the effectiveness of a border wall ahead of President Trump's 2020 campaign rally in the city of El Paso.

Many locals questioned why Trump said the city was once one of the nation's most unsafe cities, prompting a written response from El Paso's Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar.

O'Rourke is due to take part in the "March for Truth: Stop the Wall, Stop the Lies" event that will pass close to Trump's venue at the El Paso County Coliseum. It is not the sole deterrent.

Veronica Escobar, a Texas Democrat, has asked the president to apologize for his remarks, CNN reported.

"These distortions about our vibrant community are harmful to our reputation and degrade our spirit", Escobar wrote. "I urge you to treat this visit as your opportunity not only to correct the record and ensure that the misinformation you stated on the national stage is retracted, but also an opportunity to apologize to El Pasoans for the disparagement of our community", the congresswoman added.
