But asked where Khashoggi´s body is, he told the the interviewer "We don´t know".

Chris Murphy, Connecticut Democrat and a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said sanctions against Saudi Arabia are "probably the most appropriate step" after Mr. Trump skipped a congressional deadline Friday for delivering a report on who's responsible for the slaying of Khashoggi. On October 10, 2018, a bipartisan group of United States senators triggered the terms of the Global Magnitsky Act, requiring the president to investigate and determine if a foreign person is responsible for Khashoggi's death within 120 days. "It was committed by officials of the Saudi government acting outside their scope of authority".

"Woefully inadequate time and access was granted to Turkish investigators to conduct a professional and effective crime-scene examination and search required by global standards for investigation", Agnes Callamard, U.N. special rapporteur for extrajudicial summary or arbitrary executions, said in statement after a weeklong visit to Turkey.

Questioned why those in custody couldn´t tell them where the body was, Jubeir responded: "We are still investigating".

But Saudi Arabia has a long history of detaining and murdering dissidents.

On Friday, The New York Times said the Central Intelligence Agency had intercepted communications of the crown prince telling a top aide in 2017 that he would go after Khashoggi "with a bullet" if the journalist did not return to Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Al Jubeir called USA criticism of Saudi leadership "a red line". "I don't know the background". Turkish officials have said Khashoggi's attackers dissolved his body in acid in an attempt to hide evidence of his murder.

"We have now a number of possibilities and we´re asking them what they did with the body, and I think this investigation is ongoing, and I would expect that eventually we will find the truth", he said.
