Wojnarowski: Trail Blazers Sign Enes Kanter

Free agent big man Enes Kanter is signing with the Portland Trail Blazers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Portland Trail Blazers created an open roster spot with the trade that sent Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and two future second round picks to Cleveland in exchange for Rodney Hood. "Excited to meet my new teammates, coaches, staff and most importantly the fans".

The Knicks officially waived Kanter on Thursday's trade deadline and ate the remainder of his $18.6 million contract for this season - the reason they couldn't trade him. "Let's go Rip City".

In about a year and a half in New York, Kanter was a productive member of the starting unit, averaging 14.0 points and 10.8 rebounds in a little over 25 minutes per game. He will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The Blazers were Kanter's choice over several serious suitors, including the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said.

In eight seasons with Utah, Oklahoma City and New York, Kanter has averaged 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds.

The third overall pick by the Utah Jazz in the 2011 Draft, the 6-11 center has averaged 11.9 points on 55 percent shooting from the field and 7.6 points in 560 games over the course of his seven-plus National Basketball Association season.

The Blazers are 33-23, tied with the Houston Rockets for fourth in the Western Conference entering Wednesday's games.
