Facebook And Instagram Down Globally In Apparent Outage

Some Facebook and Instagram users experienced connection issues Wednesday afternoon, as Facebook said it was working to fix the problem.

And while the company acknowledged the problem, it didn't immediately provide answers about the cause or when the service might return to normal.

Facebook has since responded to the issues on Twitter (ironic), saying that they are working to resolve the problems at hand.

"We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", according to a Facebook spokesperson.

5NEWS is trying to update our Facebook users with breaking news and today's top stories, but sadly our page is now down.

"As with almost every Facebook outage, users headed to Twitter with the hashtag #facebookdown quickly becoming the top trending topic in the United States", according to USA Today.

However, Facebook didn't elaborate on why its websites or apps were down.

Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram have all been having issues since around noon (ET), in some cases resulting in a 'total blackout'.

Users on Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook, saw "failed to load" or "couldn't refresh feed" messages.

Facebook and its network of apps have been suffering connectivity issues for over five hours now. It's worldwide, but appears to be hitting the US and Europe particularly hard.

Facebook responded to speculation that it was hacked on March 13 as the social media giant grappled with a website outage affecting millions of people across the world and in the United States.

Others say they can see their page but are unable post status updates or photos. Individual users have been able to post sporadically throughout the outage.

While the social networks homepage remains online, many users report difficulties in logging into the service or using the app. Many said their Instagram stories are crashing and there are glitches while logging in.
