Google Foldable Phone Patent Surfaces Online; See Details

The patent was unearthed by Patently Mobile (via The Verge), and it suggests the Android creator is mulling the launch of an innovative foldable device.

Shortly before the official announcements of these two foldable smartphones, Xiaomi has demonstrated a working prototype of the rumored Xiaomi Mi Flex (whose name is not yet confirmed), the first folding device from the Chinese company.

What do we expect to see in the iPhone 11? At the moment, we can't surely say that Google's ever going to make the device described in the patent, but I really hope that they make an attempt.

According to the patent application the foldable Pixel will fold inwards from top to bottom, just like those flip phones we all used to know and love. Another sketch shows the device folded in a "Z" shape.

But boy is that a big if.

The certain specifications of this new super smartphone of the Chinese company are certainly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and at least 8 GB of RAM. It is worth noting that Google has neither confirmed nor denied that it is now hard at works on a phone that folds in half. The Galaxy Fold was unveiled in two stages, in early November and mid-March, while the Huawei Mate X was announced at MWC a few days after the Fold. For a foldable Pixel phone, Google would have to order screens from Samsung, LG, and other display makers that can make foldable/flexible OLED panels. Between Project Stream and leaked information about Project Yeti, it's clear that the search giant is trying to change the future of ... Its Pixel phones have been slow to adopt multiple cameras and to shrink their bezels, unlike its major competitors.

In other words, if a Google folding phone is in the works, Google probably won't be in a hurry to reach the market with it, or use it to pioneer a unique Z-folding design.
