Livescore: Latest Europa League result for Rennes vs Arsenal

Arsenal hosted Rennes in the second leg of the Europa League last 16 on Thursday night looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit.

He opened the scoring after a cutback from Aaron Ramsey in the opening five minutes to get Arsenal off to a ideal start.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the opener after just five minutes, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles striking sooner after to claim his second Arsenal goal.

The north London outfit needed a 2-0 win at least to progress - and they went one step further at the Emirates in a 3-0 win.

But Arsenal's tempo slipped and a run from Hatem Ben Arfa - an outcast under current Gunners boss Unai Emery at Paris Saint-Germain - ended with a tame shot at Petr Cech.

Aubameyang also crossed his arms to celebrate the goal in the 76th minute, performing the "Wakanda Forever" gesture that is used as a greeting in the film.

Yes, that's right, after utilising the masks of Spiderman and Batman for so long, the 29-year-old swapped those has-beens for a more modern hero - Black Panther.

As expected, the visitors mounted more of an attacking effort in the second half, as they sought out a game-changing goal, but their decision making in the final third was sloppy and the Gabonese forward snuck a tap-in in the 71st minute to all but seal their progression to the last eight.

Aubameyang missed two big chances inside a minute to complete his first hat-trick in Arsenal colours, poking wide of the post with just Koubek to beat and then skewing wide of the same post once teed up by Ramsey in front of goal.

It's hardly surprising that Emery has maintained the shape that was fruitful against Manchester United as Arsenal require goals tonight against Rennes.

- The Gunners have kept four consecutive clean sheets at home in European competition for the first time since April 2009 (six in total in that run).
