LSU's Will Wade, caught on tape breaking NCAA rules, asks to return

Florida made 6-of-13 three-pointers in the second half. SC couldn't keep him off the foul line the rest of the game.

Without its suspended coach Will Wade, but with the return of guard Javonte Smart, the SEC regular-season champions couldn't hold off Florida and lost to the Gators 76-73 in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament on Friday at Bridgestone Arena.

"In the postseason, I think these tournament games come down to guard play", said Harper, a 5-foot-11 junior. "I kind of put pressure on myself on being able to perform for my team".

"I knew he was going to hit it", said the Gators' Keyontae Johnson.

LSU held a three-point advantage over UF with just under four minutes to play, but Johnson drilled a triple to tie the game up.

Eighth-seeded Florida (19-14) now will play either No. 22 Auburn or SC in the semifinals Saturday after a thrilling comeback that firmed up the Gators' chances for an at-large NCAA Tournament berth.

The No. 9 Tigers were without head coach Will Wade during the quarterfinal loss. "When you're an interim coach you're not going to get the calls".

Bryce Brown had 19 points and Samir Doughty added 10 for Auburn. In Wade's statement, he pleaded not rush to judgement. LSU (26-6) will find out Sunday where it is seeded in the NCAA Tournament.

"Now, are we an NCAA Tournament team today?" "But the bottom line is we didn't win enough to get into the NCAA Tournament". "Thought we played really well, as we have against those guys three times". I just questioned the ref on it.

The Gators advanced to face the victor of No. 4 SC and No. 5 Auburn. The Tigers have so far taken out Missouri and SC in the first two rounds of the tourney.

Exceptional efforts: Johnson was outstanding with the first double-double for a UF freshman in an SEC Tournament game since Donnell Harvey. he posted a team-high 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting (3 of 5 from three) with 12 rebounds.

What happened: Andrew Nembhard drilled a 3-point shot with 1.2 seconds to play to give Florida a stunning win over No. 1 seed LSU. The Tigers continue to get a sizable portion of their offense from 3-point range and have made 69 of them during this six-game winning streak - which accounts for 44.8 percent of its offense in those wins.

South Carolina: Depth has been a problem for South Carolina all season, and it showed up again Friday as Auburn outscored the Gamecocks 23-2 in bench points.

With the Tigers ahead 63-60 on a monster dunk by Mays, Florida benefited from a six-point trip down the court.

SC outscored Auburn by seven points when Silva was on the floor. The final ten minute of this matchup went back and forth as the two teams looked destined for their third overtime game of the season.
