The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday said that it will step up its measles vaccination activities among school children from Kindergarten to Grade six before the end of the academic year.

The man required hospitalisation for his symptoms but is no longer infectious and recovering at home.

The man is the 21st person in NSW to have been diagnosed with the highly-contagious disease since Christmas.

However, the report warned that outbreaks stemming from people bringing the disease into the country continue to take place, highlighting the need to "remain vigilant until measles is eradicated worldwide".

The woman also stayed at the Langham Hotel on Kent St in Sydney last month.

Measles is a viral infection that is serious for small children but is easily preventable by a vaccine.

Redfern Station Medical Centre and Redfern Discount Drug Store on Saturday 9 March between 10:15am and 11:15am, and Sydney Hospital on Monday 11 March between 10:30am and 11:15am.

Preventive injections can be given to highly-susceptible people up to six days after exposure to measles.

There have not been any newly identified locations where people may have been exposed to measles.

The symptoms of measles symptoms are a cough or runny nose or conjunctivitis, and a fever above 38.5 C, and a rash. If you think you have the measles, it's important to call before visiting your doctor to avoid you spreading the virus in the waiting room.

Outbreaks of measles in popular tourist destinations, particularly the Philippines, means the risk for measles being imported into Australia remains high.

Cases of measles had soared worldwide because of complacency by parents who were not vaccinating their children, UNICEF said.

Fourteen thousand does of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine are now being distributed to Christchurch general practices as the number of confirmed cases of measles has risen to 28 almost three weeks after the outbreak began.

"We know that one dose of measles vaccine including MMR protects 95% of people against developing measles".

The Canterbury District Health Board says it has to prioritise the most vulnerable.

The number of recorded measles infections globally doubled to 229,000 previous year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said in February.

The confirmed cases include cases at two schools.
