'No way' will Pelicans trade Davis to Lakers, per report

Of course, if the Lakers give the Pelicans the best trade package for Davis this summer, it would be foolish not to engage with them.

The subject of moving James, however, was contemplated by the Lakers, a team source said, weeks before Van Gundy aired it.

"I have been told that there's no way Anthony Davis is coming here, through the Pelicans", Spears said on ESPN (via NBC Sports).

A trade between the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers involving Anthony Davis is very unlikely to take place, according to Marc J. Spears. The news that Davis wanted to leave broke around a week before the trade deadline which led to plenty of teams trying to make trades with the Pelicans.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis requested a trade in January but remains with the team. for now.

"They're just not going to do it". Regardless, if this truly is the case, the Lakers may be forced to wait until Davis hits free agency in 2020 for any chance at landing him. New Orleans fired general manager Dell Demps after the trade deadline but even with his departure, the team is remaining consistent with who they want to negotiate with.

Michael Wilbon added that he also heard a similar sentiment. Former Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks GM Danny Ferry is filling the role on an interim basis.
