Officials probing death of model who testified in 'bunga-bunga' trial

Italy's prosecutors are probing the death of a Moroccan model who gave evidence at the "bunga bunga" trial of ex-Premier Silvio Berlusconi.

Citing Milan prosecutor Francesco Greco, Italian news agency ANSA reported that 34-year-old Imane Fadil died March 1 at a Milan hospital, where she had been treated since January 29 exhibiting "symptoms of poisoning".

The Pavia lab that conducted the toxicology tests said in a statement Saturday it had been asked by the hospital to analyze metals in Fadil's blood, but stressed that it doesn't measure radioactivity.

Fadil testified at the 2012 trial of Berlusconi, who was accused of paying for sex with an underage prostitute.

Ms Fadil was writing a book about her experiences and magistrates investigating her death have obtained a copy of the manuscript, Italian newspapers report. He was later convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to carry out community service. I never met this person, never talked to her'. "What I read were her declarations that made me always think these were always invented and absurd things".

Before her death, the model told both her brother and her lawyer that she had been poisoned and magistrates said that she possessed symptoms seen in poisoning victims.

Milan chief prosecutor Francesco Greco told Reuters news agency there were "several anomalies" in Ms Fadil's medical records.

The results suggested the presence of a mix of radioactive substances, including cobalt.

Imane Fidal, 34, died of chronic organ failure two weeks ago after checking into hospital with severe stomach pains.

Mr Berlusconi's reputation was tarnished by allegations about the parties at his private villa.

Berlusconi has faced a string of charges over the so-called Rubygate scandal linked to his parties and the underaged prostitute Karima El-Mahroug, also known as "Ruby the heart-stealer".
