'Sopranos' movie gets release date and a new title ... 'Newark'

As previously reported, the film was originally had the working title of "The Many Saints of Newark" but that has now changed to just "Newark".

It's official! David Chase's upcoming Sopranos prequel film has been give a title and a premiere date, Deadline reports.

Here's a question for you folks: do y'all care about Newark?

Many characters from the original "Sopranos" series are expected to appear in "Newark" so numerous actors hired already could be playing the younger versions of the ones made famous on the show.

David Chase, the creator of the HBO series, teamed up with Lawrence Konner for the script, which is rumored to be set during the Newark riots of July 1967. In addition to Nivola, Michael Gandolfini will play a younger version of Tony Soprano as he takes over the role made famous by his father James Gandolfini, who passed away in 2013.

Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen and John Magaro will also star in the prequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It was especially lethal among African American and Italian American gangsters involved in the fighting - 26 people died and more than 700 people were injured during the riots.

The Sopranos ran six seasons and won 21 Primetime Emmys, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award.
