Whoopi Goldberg's Surprise Visit After Health Scare Brings Tears On 'The View'

I know that. But the only its only get better if it I begin. Goldberg, greeted with screams and hugs from her co-hosts and a standing ovation from the audience, continued, "I'm not there yet, I'm not better...but over the next week and a half I will be here more often".

"One of the things I discovered is your insurance really doesn't do much for you", she said.

"I said okay." After several days passed by with no progress, Goldberg said she asked her doctors what was going on.

Whoopi Goldberg makes a surprise visit to the set of ABC's, "The View", on March 14, 2019.

She said she didn't realize the full extent of her illness until she went to the hospital and a worker commented on the color of her face. "It was, there's death and here's me". "That's how it was". "If you are paying into insurance, that money should roll over when you need it".

The host said the experience was a "cautionary tale for all of us".

This being The View, Goldberg also offered her opinion on health insurance, describing how her insurance "advocate" was at odds with her doctor over which in-hospital breathing machine would be paid for.

"You think you can push through because you got a little cold, you say, 'I'm just gonna keep going, keep going.' And you think because you've healed quick before that something insane can't happen". She said, "I am here, I am up and moving around, not as fast as I'd like to be, but I am okay".

Goldberg revealed the full extent of her illness and how she nearly died: Double pneumonia and sepsis.

"You can never leave me again", co-host Meghan McCain said when Goldberg first appeared.

This is a breaking news story. Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying. Even people who are not huge fans of mine have actually been saying nice things bout me.

"Ladies, I can not wait to see y'all", she added, addressing her fellow panelists.

"I think doctors should not be on insurance boards". As for now, "my immune system is challenged", she said.

Behar said the hosts had no idea Whoopi was showing up, adding, "We are shocked, personally".

The View airs weekdays (11 a.m. ET) on ABC.
