We also don't know when Project Kuiper will be launched.

The Kuiper constellation will provide high-speed broadband internet services to the unserved or underserved population of the world. In March, GeekWire spotted that Kuiper Systems LLC had recently made three sets of filings with the International Telecommunication Union, the organisation in charge of coordinating satellite orbits. Its confirmation will make Amazon the latest FAANG member to take its terrestrial internet ambitions into space.

Amazon plans to launch a constellation of 3,236 satellites into low Earth orbit to provide internet to "unserved and underserved communities around the world", Reuters reported.

Elon Musk-owned SpaceX has plans to launch as many as 12,000 satellites as part of its "Starlink" constellation and London-based global communications company "OneWeb" wants to launch 650 satellites to implement new space-based Internet communication systems. By the way, satellites have been providing internet access for some time, but those in low-Earth orbit should be superior in terms of low latency and reduced budgets for deployment.

Jeff Bezos (R), the founder of Blue Origin and Amazon.com, gestures toward a model of the BE-4 rocket engine. After the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved an additional 7,518 satellites late a year ago, SpaceX expanded the quota to 11,943 satellites. Toward the end of past year, the FCC approved the addition of 7,518 satellites to the constellation, bringing Starlink's planned total to 11,943 satellites in orbit.

Badyal was sacked by Elon Musk in June previous year, one of the sources said, due to Musk's dissatisfaction on the progress of Starlink. Badyal's hiring could be an indication that Amazon is attempting to bring in talent with the experience of building up this sort of satellite internet network. As indicated by FCC documents, Starlink will become operational after at least 800 satellites are sent on Earth's orbit.
