Avengers: Endgame Directors Defend Captain Marvel’s Appearance In The Film

There's still one more X-Men movie (Dark Phoenix) and one spinoff (New Mutants) due in theaters this year. This means there was still experimentation on the part of the directors and Brie Larson for what that character would end up becoming. Fans expect story threads to pop up in "Endgame" that will indicate where the MCU goes next in what is being called "Phase Four", although Feige and other Marvel executives will not speak about the next wave of films until after "Endgame" premieres.

Larson's Avengers: Endgame Captain Marvel look drew strong criticism when the character appeared in the second official Avengers: Endgame trailer.

Larson said "Avengers: Endgame", not "Captain Marvel", was the first time she'd ever taken on the role of Danvers and she was still figuring out who she wanted her character to be at that point.

With the addition of a full face of makeup and even red lipstick, Carol Danvers' first appearance in Avengers: Endgame shows a different look from when we last saw her just a few short months ago in Captain Marvel. He told ComicBook.com in a sit-down for Captain Marvel that there would be no announcements for "anything post Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man [Far From Home] until post Endgame and Spider-Man".

Joe Russo added: "I think as she started to gain a deeper understanding of the character, especially as she approached her own movie, she started to make different choices and as an artist she should be afforded that right to make whatever choice that she wants to make".

The current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) phase concludes with Endgame, which is being considered to be the final film in the franchise for a number of original Avengers' cast members such as Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Mark Ruffalo (Iron Man).

What do you make of this explanation and the realization that the choice behind Larson's Captain Marvel Avengers: Endgame look was actually her own? "And those are the ones that she made that day with us".
