Bernie Sanders reveals earnings putting pressure on Trump to produce tax documents

"When Baier polled the audience at the town hall - which was clearly supportive of Sanders throughout - most indicated they would support Sanders' health care plan, despite now having private insurance they would lose", Fox notes.

During a Fox News Channel town hall on Monday, Sanders said that he'd increased his income by publishing a book - he's written two with campaign themes - and that he wouldn't apologize for that. Brett Baier of Fox News pointedly asked Sen. Of course, wealth often does influence someone's views, but it's not determinative - the most egalitarian president in American history, Franklin Roosevelt, was a scion of extreme wealth and privilege, far richer than Sanders will ever be.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who far out-raised other Democrats in the first quarter by bringing in nearly $18.2 million, received an average of about $443,568 per day. "Right here. You got it on CBS", Sanders joked, adding, "No, I don't think so". Sanders can now realistically cast himself as the frontrunner, and despite all his success in 2016 and his fundraising and volunteer success this year-and though some of us have always believed he was the favorite in this primary-he's never truly been able to say that before. Sanders reported paying a 26% effective tax rate on his adjusted gross income.

Sanders previous year made $110 in music royalties, presumably for his 1987 folk album, "We Shall Overcome", and an additional $1,810 from his 1997 memoir, "Outsider in the House", which was published by Verso.

Mr Trump broke from decades of presidential tradition by refusing to show voters his tax returns during his 2016 presidential campaign.

The effective rates and income both represent substantial increases from 2014, which was the past year of tax returns publicly released by the candidate, when he earned $205,617 and paid a 13.4% effective rate.

The venue was a town hall in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Taxes paid: $697,611, or 37%. Clinton, by contrast, released 8 years worth of complete returns. Millions of people every single year lose their health insurance, you know why?

As a senator, Sanders has been required to release a financial disclosure statement, but the information in that is much more limited than the data in a tax return.

This year, however, a resurgent Sanders has sharpened his attacks on Trump for failing to release his tax returns.

Klobuchar released her 2018 tax return on Monday and said in a campaign video that she hoped Trump, who spent the day campaigning in Minnesota, would release his own taxes on his trip to the state.

"I wrote a best-selling book, "he told the paper".

President Donald Trump did not release any of his tax returns during the campaign and has yet to show any signs he will do so ahead of the 2020 election.
