Disney+ reveals price and debut date, new shows and movies

Feige said. "These will be both new and continuing stories and one of the things we're most excited about is that these will be major storylines set in the MCU with ramifications that will be felt both in the Disney+ shows we're producing and our features on the big screen".

Scripted originals previously announced for Disney+ include The Mandalorian, the world's first scripted live-action Star Wars series; the exclusive new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars; High School Musical: The Musical: The Series; the untitled Cassian Andor series starring Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk; the Marvel Studios' series Loki starring Tom Hiddleston; Monsters at Work, Diary of a Female President; and live-action films Lady and the Tramp, Noelle, Togo, Timmy Failure and Stargirl.

The fan frenzy surrounding the freshly released teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker serves as a timely reminder of Disney's omnipotence at the box office.

Disney+ will launch "with a robust library of theatrical and television content" and will release more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries and specials in its first year, according to the company. This is about half of the cost of Netflix monthly.

Marvel Studios is also working on animated series "What If", based on a past Marvel Comics series that featured out-of-continuity stories with unusual team-ups or alternate versions of previous tales.

"This is our first serious foray in this space, and we want to reach as many people as possible with it", chairman and CEO Bob Iger explained at Disney's 2019 Investor Day, where the news was announced.

Of course, it certainly won't hurt that Disney can now supplement its studio, parks and resorts, media networks, and consumer products segments with Fox's portfolio of film and TV franchises, notably including Deadpool, Avatar, X-Men, Fantastic Four, This Is Us, Modern Family, The Simpsons, and (as Iger noted) National Geographic. "As we demonstrated today, with Disney+ we will deliver extraordinary entertainment in innovative ways to audiences around the world", said Kevin Mayer, chair of Disney's direct-to-consumer efforts. We're buying more movie-making capability, et cetera'.

There's plenty to be excited about ahead of the streaming service's November launch and Disney promises that it will rapidly expand globally following its US debut. Subscribers will be able to create custom profiles and receive content recommendations based on unique tastes, past behavior, and preferred content.

Following its U.S debut, Disney+ will rapidly expand globally, with plans to be in almost all major regions of the world within the next two years.

With Hollywood stars galore, Apple last month unveiled its streaming video plans along with news and game subscription offerings as part of an effort to shift its focus to digital content and services to break free of its reliance on iPhone sales.
