Disney's Streaming Service (Finally!) Gets Launch Date, Price Details

That is cheaper than rival Netflix, which charges $US13 per month for its most popular streaming plan, but the Disney service will have a narrower focus on family-friendly shows and movies.

During an investor briefing, Disney revealed various platforms Disney+ will be available on, and Switch is confirmed! Disney also owns a controlling stake in streaming service Hulu.

Captain Marvel will be available on day one of the subscription streaming service's launch, and so will Disney's entire Signature Collection.

Disney+ will allow downloading so that all shows and movies on the service can be accessed offline. Projects already in the works include a Monsters Inc. spin-off series, a The Sandlot TV series, and many new Marvel projects. Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is spearheading that one, which will follow a bounty hunter played by Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal as he explores the outer reaches of the galaxy, set after the events of The Return of the Jedi. All Pixar films will be available on the first year of launch, with theatrical shorts, including the Oscar-winning Bao, watchable at launch.

Among the exciting content on the service will be three live-action Marvel series, an animated Marvel series, two Star Wars live-action series, the upcoming High School Musical series, live-action films like Lady and the Tramp, Noelle starring Anna Kendrick, and Stargirl, and all 30 seasons of The Simpsons. "A post-Endgame MCU will be extremely different and extremely focused on Disney+ tying into our future movies", he said. There's also some National Geographic content coming down the pipeline, including a series called The World According to Jeff Goldblum.

The service will come with customized settings and individual profiles, including the option to create a custom avatar with characters from the Disney library.
