Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger are down: Here's what we know

The massive user base that frequents Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook combined makes for a big deal when the services are unavailable.

As the public becomes more cautious about privacy, Mr Zuckerberg foresees a change in the company's services, with growing numbers of people turning to closed communication such as private messaging, short-lasting stories that expire within 24 hours and small groups.

However, Facebook did not specify the cause or scope of the outages.

The website wouldn't refresh, and messages weren't coming through, from roughly 6:30 AM EDT (New York time) to about 9:30 AM. Social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp are used every minute all over the globe by thousands of people making them the most impactful and appreciated applications globally. The breakdown tracking and checking site also demonstrated that at the crest on Sunday, there were in excess of 3,000 occurrences of individuals announcing issues with WhatsApp and more than 7,000 with Instagram. "The issue has since been resolved; we're sorry for any inconvenience", the apology email read.

The Downdetector.com has a live outage map, which showed that most of the reported incidents were located in Europe and in Asia. Besides, according to multiple tech pundits, the number of server downfall had been increasing following a merger of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram on February, although the area of problem remained unidentified.
