Federal Bureau of Investigation looks for woman 'infatuated' with Columbine shooting

Authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are searching for Sol Pais who is wanted for questioning after making undisclosed threats to area schools that prompted many of them to lock their door for several hours Tuesday and at least 20 Denver-area districts to cancel classes Wednesday.

The Colorado Department of Education recommended that Denver area schools conduct lockouts and controlled release Tuesday after the alleged threats.

Officials said after school activities will be held at all schools except Columbine, but didn't explain why.

Police said the 18-year-old woman, Sol Pais, made threats that led to lockouts at many Colorado schools Tuesday, including Columbine High School.

"Because of her comments and her actions, because of her travel here to the state, because of her procurement of a weapon immediately upon arriving here", he said, "we consider her to be a credible threat - certainly to the community and, potentially, to schools".

Pais was last seen in the Jefferson County foothills and is considered extremely risky.

Authorities say tightened security at Columbine High School and about a dozen other Denver-area schools is related to an FBI investigation.

Students left classes on time, but after-school activities were cancelled.

Teenage gunmen attacked Columbine on April 20, 1999, killing 12 classmates and a teacher.

Jefferson County sheriff's office earlier posted photos of the woman on Twitter. They were not directed to a particular school, according to sheriff's spokesperson Mike Taplin. Officials said extra security would be present on the affected campuses.

Also shared was a more complete list of the Jeffco schools impacted: "Bergens, Blue Heron, Columbine HS, Conifer HS, Dutch Creek, Elk Creek, Evergreen HS, Evergreen Middle, Governor's Ranch, Ken Caryl Middle, Leawood, Marshdale, Mt. Evans, Normandy, Parmalee, Ralston, Rocky Mtn Acad of Egreen, West Jeff Elementary, West Jeff MS, Wilmot, Windy Peak, Woodrow Wilson West".

The message to the public came hours after the sheriff's office tweeted that they were probing what looked like "a credible threat possibly involving schools".

The 20th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine will take place this Saturday.

The 20th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine High School is days away. Students are pictured stopping to pay their respects at a makeshift memorial after the attack in 1999. "Lockout means biz as usual inside buildings, entry/exit restricted".

The safety unit run by Jefferson County Public Schools is considered one of the most sophisticated school security systems in the country. Officials emphasize taking every threat - no matter how vague - seriously.
