Jeff Bezos says Amazon will need to fail to succeed

"There are now more than 150 different products available with Alexa built-in, from headphones and PCs to cars and smart home devices".

Bezos covered a wide range of topics in his annual letter to shareholders Thursday that was released on Twitter and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In response, eBay CEO Devin Wenig takes to Twitter to defend his company.

"Third-party sales have grown from $0.1 billion to $160 billion - a compound annual growth rate of 52%. Amazon will be experimenting at the right scale for a company of our size if we occasionally have multibillion-dollar failures", he writes in the final section of his letter with the heading "Failure needs to scale too".

"While I appreciate the ink dedicated to from the ceo of the company not focused on competition, think I "ll dedicate my letter to customers, objective and strategy".

Bezos said in his letter that the wage hike has benefited more than 250,000 Amazon employees and over 100,000 seasonal employees who worked during the last holiday season at Amazon sites in the United States.

His tweet; "We don't compete with our sellers. We don't bundle endless services to create barriers to competition".

In a quiet, yet firm reply, Dan Bartlett, Walmart's executive vice president of corporate affairs took to Twitter and shared an article that said Amazon paid no federal taxes a year ago despite making a humungous $11 billion plus in profits.

Amazon also offers the Career Choice program that pays up to 95 percent of education tuition and fees for workers.

USA retail giants have been challenged by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to match his company's recent increase to a minimum wage of $US15 ($NZ23.78) per hour. According to e-Marketer, Amazon captured roughly 66.6% of the smart speaker market in the USA, outpacing rivals like Google (GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL). "Developers doubled the number of Alexa skills to over 80,000, and customers spoke to Alexa tens of billions more times in 2018 compared to 2017".
