More than $3700K raised for boy thrown from Mall of America balcony

Police do not think there is a relationship between Aranda and the child, but the Minneapolis resident has a history with the police, including a July 2015 incident where he threw an object from one of the floors at the same mall.

On Saturday, Potts declined to give specifics about Aranda's mental health but said some of the previous cases had been handled in mental health courts.

The Mall of America, home to 330 stores, is located in the city of Bloomington, just south of Minneapolis. Aranda faces a preliminary charge of attempted homicide and is being held at the Hennepin County Jail. "But, as to why he did that, is still something we're looking into and trying to figure out", he said. Police are not releasing his name.

'His soul is soft and gentle and instantly brings a smile to everybody he meets, ' according to the GoFundMe page.

Hanneman said his wife and Landen's mother are long-time friends.

Friends of the family began a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign for Landen, who is described as "the sweetest, kindest 5-year-old you will ever meet".

Hanneman said the boy suffered life-threatening injuries. "He has many surgeries ahead in his life to try to get back to a normal life for a young, vibrant boy".

Then in October 2015, Aranda returned to the Mall of America again - in violation of his no-trespass order - and harassed and assaulted a woman inside a restaurant there, records show.

In one case, he pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanor charge of interfering with a peace officer in connection with a July 4, 2015, incident where he was seen throwing objects from the upper level off the mall.

Three months later, Aranda was accused of throwing glasses of water and tea at a woman in a restaurant at the mall for refusing to buy him food, according to the court records.

Aranda lives in the Bloomington area and has had a series of arrests and convictions related to the mall. He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest at the time he allegedly assaulted the boy at the Mall of America.

Mr Potts went on to explain how Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda has previously been arrested at the Mall of America. Charges are expected to come down Monday. "The family and this child are in our thoughts and prayers, and I know the family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers that they can get from the public.as they hope for a full recovery of their child".

"It was a pretty gut-wrenching scene for everyone involved", he said Saturday afternoon.
