NHL: Lightning look to bounce back from Game 1 collapse

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos was searching for positives after witnessing his team fail to close out Game 1 of its first-round series against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night.

That all changed as fast as the Lightning squandered a three-goal lead before losing 4-3 to the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 1 of their first-round series Wednesday night.

On defense, Boston can not be caught cheating up ice and the defensemen have to fan Leafs players towards the boards and slow them down as skaters like a traffic cop.

The Bolts will be hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets at Amalie Arena. We have not seen a force in the National Hockey League like the Lightning for some time and that force will end up winning the Cup. Columbus - and its leaky goalie Sergei Bobrovsky - played scared for the remainder of the game and gave up goals to Bolts rookie Anthony Cirelli and center Yanni Gourde as time ran out on the first frame of the contest. The Bruins won the season series this year 3-1. Victor Hedman, the 2018 Norris Trophy winner as the league's best defenseman, returns to the lineup. I just don't see how Columbus can get past this team.

Matt Duchene and Pierre-Luc Dubois combined to go minus-3 in game one, and did not register a point.

The last matchup in the East is the New York Islanders going head to head with the Pittsburgh Penguins. That's why they play the games.

Even in the hockey-speak of upper- and lower-body injuries, playoff time brings an extra cloud of secrecy. The Lightning lost the 2015 Final, and haven't won a Cup since 2004.

The Capitals should be able to get past the Hurricanes relatively easily, but they need to correct a couple of things in order for it to become a reality.

The Islanders led three times in regulation with the Penguins managing to tie it each time. Less than three minutes later the Blue Jackets capped off their rapid scoring and pinned the last nail in the coffin that was the Lightning. The Leafs also showcased something odd, defensive intensity, blocking shots on the perimeter, not taking foolish penalties and guarding Bruins players out front like they were the Virginia Cavaliers basketball team.

Winnipeg led 1-0 after two periods in Game 1 against the Blues before losing 2-1.

If you are a Boston Bruins fan, the first game of the series was a nightmare. They match up against the second wildcard Avalanche.

Dubinsky's double-minor for high-sticking Paquette at 9:23 had the Blue Jackets playing defensively on the penalty kill, but Anderson tied it with a short-handed goal at 11:54, setting the stage for Jones' victor. Add in Logan Couture, Timo Meier, Joe Pavelski, Evander Kane, Joe Thornton and Erik Karlsson and this team has some serious depth. Thanks to Binnington's incredible performance and the team gelling together, the St. Louis Blues stormed their way back into a playoff spot with a franchise-record 11 consecutive wins. For all 16 of them, the road to hoisting the Stanley Cup starts here.

Making their 13th straight appearance in the playoffs, with three championships and two other deep runs, the Pittsburgh Penguins know they can't get discouraged with a tough series-opening loss.

"We got a 3-0 lead at home in the playoffs, that should be done and over with". "I think we're showing it there on the ice".
