Owners of faulty Nexus 6P phones could get up to $400

With Huawei blaming Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and the Search giant returning the favour, nothing was done to aid those affected by the bugs. The next hearing on this is scheduled on May 9.

If the court approves the settlement at the next hearing which is scheduled for May 9th, Nexus 6P users in the U.S. who bought the device on or after September 25th, 2015 would be eligible to claim reimbursement.

Getting the said amount could be far from being a simple chore though, as there are several tiers that have been devised and users would be required to satisfy several conditions to get the amount applicable in each tier. However, the users who received a Pixel XL in a warranty exchange program, will only get $10.

As reported by The Verge, Google and Huawei are being sued by Nexus 6P users who have had their devices get stuck in a bootloop and shut down unexpectedly, even though they have been charged sufficiently.

Google and Huawei have decided that they will pay $400 as a class action settlement to Google Nexus 6P owners. The lawsuit claims that the users' devices experienced a bootlooping issue that caused their phones to shut down, randomly irrespective of the battery level.

This is yet another class action lawsuit on the Android-related devices. The most recent and high-profile case belonged to LG, which end up paying $425 per owner, or $700 in the form of a rebate, after settling a similar class action suit regarding bootloop issues with the G4, V10, V20, Nexus 5X, and G5 back in January 2018.

Nexus 6P devices were left unusable following an update in April 2017, two years after the device originally released, as the software entered a state of unending reboots until the battery died.

That can jump to $45 if you "attest" to battery drain problems without submitting documentation to support your claim, while unsupported bootloop complaints will be compensated with anywhere between $20 and $75.

The settlement is all depending on the court for the approval, but it seems that it's going to happen anytime soon. But however, they have agreed to on the payout to finally settle the suit.
