President Trump to award Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Woods' relationship with Trump is well-known.

Donald Trump is giving his good friend Tiger Woods one of this nation's highest honors following his victory at the 2019 Masters: The Presidential Medal of Freedom. Check. A presidential medal of Freedom?

According to President Donald Trump, Tiger Woods will have yet another award to add to his enormous pile of hardware, all thanks to the comeback he completed on Sunday at Augusta National.

Woods' victory marked his first Masters victory in 14 years, after a series of back problems and personal problems threatened to end his career. Trump wrote in a tweet this afternoon.

Yogi Berra, Billie Jean King, Muhammad Ali and Arnold Palmer are among other sports figures who have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The president later shared a photo of the group on social media, and a Trump Organisation official noted that Woods and Nicklaus have designed courses for the company.

Trump's assessment then of Woods' game was spot-on, with the president predicting that Woods would "be winning majors again". "What a fantastic life comeback for a really great guy!" he added later.

Woods will be the fourth sportsman to receive the award during Trump's presidency, following Babe Ruth, Roger Staubach and Alan Page.
